Cool Motion Pictures Concerning Erroneous Identities
Posted by Brent Austin at Oct 20th, 2009 in Blogging
An unscientific but forever cool storyline for a movie is when the characters trade lives with each other or make believe to be someone else, it always ends up being comical and the message is usually about bearing in mind the other individual’s viewpoint.
In 1987, Dudley Moore and Kirk Cameron played father and son who traded places in the movie “Like Father, Like Son”. The father inadvertently sprinkles a mysterious Indian potion into his bloody Mary and instantly he and his son have traded identities. Cast also includes Margaret Colin, Catherine Hicks, Patrick O’Neal and Sean Astin.
The father is a heart surgeon who happens to be so wrapped up in his own vocation that he pays no consideration to the problems the son is having with school and social activities. The trading places with each other leads to extraordinarily hilarious complications at work and at school but each gets insight into the others life.
And another similar motion picture from 2003, “Freaky Friday” involves a mom and her 15-year old daughter. The daughter cannot understand why her mother does not support her musical aspirations and the mom can’t appreciate why the daughter is not more caring to her future marriage.
A fortune cookie on a Thursday evening brings about a Friday where they swap identities and learn to have empathy for the other. But they have to find a way to exchange back before the wedding ceremony on Saturday. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as mother and daughter and Mark Harmon as the mom’s fianc.
And last of all, a different sort of identity exchange film, “Mrs. Doubtfire” is a warm and heartwarming comedy about a free spirited husband and father, who gets a divorce after fourteen years. Since he can’t bear the idea of being away from his family he camouflages himself as a dowdy British housekeeper and gets hired as the children’s nanny.
Sally Fields is the ex-wife, with Pierce Brosnan as her new boyfriend. Robin Williams plays the dad and Mrs. Doubtfire with Lisa Jakob, Matthew Lawrence and Mara Wilson as the children. “Mrs. Doubtfire” is a movie that everyone can enjoy from the year 1993.
And there you have three motion pictures that are based upon the irrational but enjoyable idea of mistaken identities. Enjoy.
