Getting Started On eBay – How To Sell

by Jesse Holmes

You’ve seen the advertisements on TV and on the internet about selling on eBay. Can you really learn how, or is it a get rich quick scheme? The truth is that selling on eBay is a viable business model. Yes, it will take some hard work, but it’s a different kind of work. And overall, it’s less work than you have with a regular full-time job. Don’t quit your day job just yet though. It will take a bit of time for you to learn how to sell on eBay and grow your business to the level of income as a full-time job.

Are you looking to make a few hundred dollars or a few thousand dollars every month? Whatever you goal is, it can be done. The great thing about eBay is that your work has direct results, and the more you put in, the more you get out. However, you need to learn what to do. You can do this by purchasing a course or a book, or you could try to learn it on your own. Everyone learns differently, but I think the fastest way to learn is if you have an example to follow. That’s how I got started.

The first thing that you want to do when selling on eBay is to make sure that you are selecting the right kind of stuff to sell. This involves researching what products sell the best. However, if you’re making your first listings, just grab a few things around the house that you no longer want. These auctions will allow you to gain experience and build your customer service ratings.

Whatever product you have in mind, go to eBay and see if it is selling. First, do a search for the product. Are there many buyers for this product? Or, are there many auctions up that aren’t selling? Is the product in high demand? Answering these questions will help you know what sells and what doesn’t. Knowing what sells on eBay will give you an idea of what you should sell, and you’ll be able to sell on eBay the smart way.

Once you have found a product that you would like to sell, make sure that your auctions have a little bit of an edge. If you have the same product that 5 other people have, what would make someone want to bid on your auction instead of another person’s? On eBay, it often comes down to the price. While you have to make sure that you are making enough money from the auction to pay your eBay fees and to make a profit, you also need to make sure that you are beating the competition.

It may take a couple of weeks or possibly even a couple of months before you are really getting the hang of selling on eBay. With a plan and a mentor, you can shorten that learning curve. Before you know it you will know how to sell on eBay the smart way and you’ll be another eBay success story.
