Is Affiliate Marketing For Me?
Posted by David Goundry at Mar 13th, 2010 in Affiliate Marketing
Entering affiliate marketing as a “newbie,” ican be daunting and a bit risky to your wallet to say the least. The multitude of possibilities and the bureaucratic and technical nature of setting up affiliations can be off putting to the novice and turn them into a paralyzed state of inaction and fear. (I’m speaking from experience!)
Affiliate marketing or affiliation basically means you become a middle man between the company or product and the customer. You direct the customer to that company or product and gain a commission if they buy or join. How do you do that? Well, by advertising your affiliate links, which are given to you by the company you join. Your links lead the customer to your landing page/blog/splash page or the companies website.Obviously the more traffic you send the more chance there is of making money in affiliate marketing.
To the uninitiated there is quite a lot to affiliate marketing, a lot to learn. You have to learn how to advertise by using ppc (pay per click advertising) on Google, Yahoo and MSN. This is a very effective way to build residual income and down line, however it can be both expensive and in affective if you don’t know what you’re doing. You’ll have to learn about keywords, landing pages etc. Most successful affiliate Marketers have their own blog and writ articles and release press releases. I know this sounds daunting, but in reality it’s very easy. There are other methods, many free to advertise your links e. g traffic exchanges, forums and social media.
The first thing you must do is look past all the get rich quick schemes and they’re easy to identify i.e. promise you large amounts of money which is gained with little effort. I really wish that it was true, but it isn’t. Ideally you need to find a program that guides you step by step, offers guidance and support and training and inter grates many income streams. Ideally you’re looking for a program that requires a low investment that you can build over the long term. There are several good programs out there which do this, so how do you identify them amongst the less interesting ones? Well I did it the hard way i. e doing a bit of research about the companies included in various programs.
An example is Acme People Search that appears to tick all the correct boxes and that appears to work well. A program that includes other affiliations such as Gvo and GDI are offered as well as8 other affiliations such as ClickBank. The training revolves around what appears to be a very good forum where members help each other out and free video training
My advice is take things step by step and don’t jump in without due consideration. You really can create residual income through affiliate marketing. However it will take time, simply because you need to learn the different techniques and apply them. It took me about 6 months to get on my feet, but I’m happy I made the effort now.You really can earn enough to work from home, however this won’t happen overnight regardless of the promises you will run into on the net.
