The very first thing you should do is to properly inspect your roof and determine the kind of treatment it requires. Whether it needs complete replacement or some repair work can do the job.

Today, markets are flooded with different roofing materials. The most common and the oldest type of roofing material is the asphalt glass, but it is still a very popular choice. There are many other options coming up like, you can go for wooden roofs, metal roofs, tiles, slate etc.

It is always recommended to remove the old roof layer before installing a new one. If in case you are installing a new one over the old layer, check your roof condition first and make sure that it is in a condition to bear more weight of the new layer.

Roof installation can be a complicated task and different roofing materials have different requirements which must be taken care of to complete the installation successfully. For example, if you are using asphalt glass roof or tiles, you need to have a solid base made up material like plywood. If you have wooden roof, then you need to have an open sheathing for proper roof ventilation.

During the installation of the new roof, when your roofing contractor starts removing the old roof, make sure to cover doors and windows so that they are not destroyed. Remove the debris falling over your home. One very important thing to remember is to arrange for proper drainage system on the roof while it is being replaced.

Selecting the right roofing contractor is also very important. For this, a good option is to ask for some references from friends and family and ask for their feedbacks. Also, you must at least have bids from three different roofers so that you can compare them and select the most suitable one.
