Selling on eBay – Customer Service

by Jesse Holmes

All of the eBay selling tools in the world cannot prepare a person for the confusion, anger, and frustration that will come when the first problem customer comes along. Knowing how to sell on eBay is much more then just learning how to create an auction and how to properly mail a package. People who do not take the time to learn how to deal with problem customers end up getting angry and saying things that they wish they didn’t.

No matter how nasty a customer gets it is important to make sure that you never lose your cool. When learning how to sell on eBay, make sure that you are looking through the various eBay information courses to see if there is anything in there about dealing with problem customers. One tip is make sure that you remain professional at all times.

Many people who just start out learning how to sell on eBay often make the mistake of thinking that if they are hassled by a problem customer, they don’t need to treat them nicely. If you deal with the problem correctly, the customer could actually appreciate you more for solving the issue and be a satisfied return customer in the long run.

In these situations you have to make sure that you don’t do anything you might regret, so that current and future customers won’t look upon you poorly. Remember that eBay buyers can check to see if you replied to feedback that was left in a positive or negative way. Others might not want to do business with you if they see that you don’t handle support calmly and professionally.

So what should you do when you get a bad customer? Your main goal is to try to solve the problem. You want to put the fire out without drawing attention to it. Work with your buyer to see if you can both be satisfied. You will run into situations where there is no solution, but that’s usually the exception. After thousands of eBay transactions, only a few cause trouble. It’s just good to be prepared.
